"I was born in Greenwood, Mississippi. After attending the University of Mississippi and the Memphis Academy of Arts, I assisted the photographer William Eggleston. I received the Mississippi Arts and Letters award for photography in 1988, 1992, and 2000, and the Mississippi Art Commission's Individual Artist Grant in 1998. The University Press of Mississippi published my widely recognized monograph 'Delta Land' in 1999. I was the Photography Editor of the literary magazine The Oxford American from 1998-2002. I was a Visiting Artist at Yale University, New Haven, CT, in 2008. My work is in the collections of The Museum of Modern Art, The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and The National Museum for Women in the Arts, among others."

"I was born in the Mississippi Delta, where my family has been for 5 generations (Nathan James McMullen, who was also Bill Eggleston's great grandfather, came to Tallahatchie County, MS, in 1839.) I lived in Manhattan for 13 years, then came back to the Delta to work and live. I am very much connected to this landscape and my "mission" -- if one could call it that -- is to somehow leave a visual record of what it looks like here."
