James Lloyd was born in South Wales on July 2nd 1979. After leaving school, James spent many years 'drifting' (as he puts it); travelling Europe, working various jobs, and writing (travel writing, short stories, poems) about his experiences, before settling in Dublin. His girlfriend persuaded him to go to university, where he studied English. During his time at college James also wrote and directed three short films and won an award from the faculty of Creative Arts & Humanities.

After his degree, James returned to Ireland to study toward an MA Film & Visual Studies at Queens University, Belfast, but opted to take a year out (after some advice from his mentor) to concentrate on writing. At present, James is putting together a proposal for an Mphil (Film Studies) with 'Film Aesthetics & History' being the focus of his research.

He currently lives and works in Belfast.
