Statement

"When I made what I consider to be my first 'proper' photograph at the tender age of twelve little did I realize that it would influence the way I make images up to this very day. That first proper photograph was taken in Carlisle, Cumbria where I was born and raised. I was influenced greatly by my surroundings and in particular the way things looked at night. The housing estate I grew up on was on the very edge of the city and I would very often wonder out into this artificially lit wilderness in search of adventure and eventually photographic images.

When I mention I grew up in Cumbria and make landscape images people always assume my images will be of the Lake District which although breathtaking I have never really gone down that route in my work. My latest project however is based along the border between Scotland and England and like the Lake District the Borders seem to be synonymous with Cumbria.

No matter how far I have traveled in search of unique images I always find myself returning to Cumbria. The ever changing weather and its diverse landscape make sure I am never away too long. There really is nowhere else like it."
